Registering for Utah Payroll Tax Account Numbers

Utah requires employers to register with the State Tax Commission and Department of Workforce Services. You can register for both online.

State Tax Commission Account Number

• Register online
• Format: 11 digits and “WTH” (99999999999WTH)
• To find an existing account number, call: (801) 297-2200

Department of Workforce Services Employer Registration Number

• Register online
• Format: 8 digits (C-9-999999-9 or R-9-999999-9)
• To find an existing account number, call: (801) 526-9235

The Department of Workforce Services will assign your unemployment insurance rate. 

Payroll Tax Deposit Schedules

All unemployment taxes are deposited quarterly.

The State Tax Commission will assign your withholding deposit schedule based on your average monthly accumulated withholdings. If you accumulated:

• less than $1,000 in withholding, you’ll deposit quarterly;
• $1,000 or more in withholding, you’ll deposit monthly.
